What's Included

  • Refrigerant & ODS Logbook Template (Word format)
  • Companion Guide with completion instructions
  • Quick Reference Card (laminate-ready)
  • MARPOL 73/78 Convention Text (Official PDF)

Superyachts carry some of the most complex refrigeration and air conditioning systems found on any vessel, and the refrigerants and ozone depleting substances (ODS) within those systems are subject to a layered regulatory framework. MARPOL Annex VI Regulation 12 prohibits deliberate emissions of ozone depleting substances and requires records of ODS equipment and any additions or removals. The EU F-Gas Regulation 517/2014 imposes additional obligations on vessels operating in EU waters—including leak detection requirements, mandatory servicing by certified technicians, and detailed equipment logs. The Montreal Protocol continues to drive phase-downs of high-GWP refrigerants under the Kigali Amendment. Managing these obligations without a structured logbook and equipment inventory is difficult, and the consequences of inadequate records during a flag state survey or EU port inspection are significant. This professional package gives you everything you need to maintain a compliant refrigerant management system.

Who Needs This

Any superyacht carrying refrigeration, air conditioning, or fire suppression systems using ODS or high-GWP F-gases is subject to MARPOL Annex VI Regulation 12 record-keeping requirements. Vessels operating in EU waters face additional obligations under F-Gas Regulation 517/2014, including annual leak detection for systems containing 5 tonnes CO2-equivalent or more, and quarterly checks for systems above 50 tonnes CO2-equivalent. Vessels operating in US waters may be subject to EPA Section 608 requirements. This logbook package is appropriate for all superyachts regardless of operating area—the MARPOL requirements apply globally, and the EU F-Gas framework is the benchmark for best practice record-keeping worldwide.

What’s Included

Refrigerant and ODS Logbook Template

A structured logbook covering all refrigerant and ODS management records required under MARPOL Annex VI and EU F-Gas 517/2014: system identification and initial charge records, routine top-up and recovery entries, technician certification details, leak detection check records, decommissioning records, and year-end summary sheets. Available in both Word and Excel formats to suit your preferred working method.

Equipment Inventory with GWP Calculations

An Excel-format inventory sheet for documenting every refrigerant-containing system aboard: system description and location, refrigerant type and initial charge weight, GWP value, total CO2-equivalent charge, leak detection frequency threshold (5t and 50t CO2e thresholds pre-calculated), and current charge status. Automatically calculates your F-Gas compliance triggers as you add systems.

Companion Guide

A practical completion guide explaining the MARPOL Annex VI and EU F-Gas requirements in plain language—how to set up the logbook for your vessel, how to complete each entry type, how to calculate CO2-equivalent charges and determine your leak detection obligations, and what surveyors and PSC officers look for during refrigerant inspections.

Quick Reference Card

A laminate-ready card for the engine room covering GWP values for common refrigerants, the EU F-Gas leak detection frequency thresholds, and the key record-keeping obligations under MARPOL Annex VI Regulation 12.

Regulatory Compliance

This logbook satisfies MARPOL Annex VI Regulation 12 record-keeping requirements and the equipment log obligations under EU F-Gas Regulation 517/2014. It is structured to meet the inspection expectations of the Red Ensign Group, Marshall Islands, Malta, and Bahamas flag states, and EU port state control. The GWP calculations in the equipment inventory use the IPCC AR5 values referenced in EU F-Gas 517/2014.

How to Use

  1. Download all files immediately after purchase
  2. Complete the Equipment Inventory for every refrigerant-containing system aboard
  3. Read the Companion Guide to understand your specific leak detection obligations
  4. Use the Companion Guide to brief your chief engineer on logbook entry procedures
  5. Begin making logbook entries for all refrigerant additions, recoveries, and checks
  6. Retain the logbook on board for a minimum of five years
  7. Present the logbook during flag state surveys and EU port inspections

Why Choose Our Template

This logbook package was developed with direct reference to MARPOL Annex VI enforcement practice and the EU F-Gas Regulation audit requirements. The equipment inventory with automated CO2-equivalent calculations removes the most error-prone part of F-Gas compliance—working out whether your systems trigger the quarterly or annual leak detection thresholds. The companion guide translates the regulatory requirements into instructions that engineers can follow without specialist environmental compliance training. When the Kigali Amendment phase-down schedule or EU F-Gas requirements change, the package is updated and existing customers receive the revision at no additional cost.
